In light of the recent Black Lives Matter protests, we stand in solidarity with the movement, the ideology and with the strive for equality. We also believe that our voice shouldn’t dominate the current conversation but make space for the voices that need to be heard.
We would like to share some black-owned businesses that practice sustainable fashion who have inspired us with their vision, style and bold expression.
1.Ona bags
Founded in New York, Ona Bags are hand-crafted with premium materials such as full-grain leather, waxed canvas and solid brass hardware. The brand started when founder Tracy Foster wanted to find a solution to carrying her camera around in a bag that was both stylish and utilitarian.
2.Brother Vellies
Brother Vellies was formed to keep African design practices and techniques alive while creating sustainable products and artisanal jobs. The brand creates luxury accessories that celebrate cultural histories and timeless design. The production process is a sustainable practice and the collection is produced globally by artisans in locations ranging from South Africa, Ethiopia, Haiti to Italy.
3. Dorcas Creates
The founder Dorcas is an illustrator, artist and product designer who decided to bring the representation of black women into everyday life. Her imaginative and unique illustrations range from earrings, pins, artist prints, totes and to notebooks. We loved her unique style and the way she incorporated it into expressive products that can accompany you wherever you go!
4.The Folklore
The Folklore is an online concept store that serves as a platform for designer brands that come from Africa and the diaspora. You can find anything from designer wooden bowls for your kitchen to hand-crafted jewelry.

5. Andrea Iyamah
The Nigerian designer is known for her unique and eccentric take on designing swimwear. Her collection grabs your attention with vibrant colors and cuts inspired by African cultures. We loved her use of color and bold choices to re-interpret the swimwear design, giving it a unique expression as opposed to being a classic piece.
